Hyundai Ioniq 5 is one of its kind electric car in India. Priced at 46 Lakhs (Ex-showroom) this EV offers many unique features that are nowhere available in its competitors. After reading this review you’ll know why I’m making such a bold statement about the car.
Ioniq 5: Design and Exterior-
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 makes a bold statement with its futuristic design that blends retro-futuristic elements with a clean, minimalist aesthetic. Although, it has a lot of resemblance to the Tesla Cyber truck. The edgy design, color, and big-alloy wheels give us a hint of cyber truck. Its overall silhouette is characterized by clean lines and geometric shapes, emphasizing both aerodynamics and visual appeal.
The front fascia features pixel LED headlights that not only provide excellent illumination but also add a high-tech visual signature. At the rear, the LED taillights continue the pixel theme, contributing to the EV’s modern and cohesive design language. The flush door handles and aerodynamic wheels enhance efficiency, while the massive 20-inch alloy wheels provide a premium touch and improve stability on the road.
Ioniq 5: Interior and Comfort-
As soon as you step inside the Ioniq 5, you’ll find a spacious inviting interior that blends functionality with a minimalist design philosophy. The cabin feels more like a contemporary lounge than a traditional car interior, thanks to its clutter-free dashboard and premium materials. The use of eco-friendly materials, including upholstery made from sustainable sources and recycled plastics, underscores Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability without compromising luxury.
The dual 12.3″ screens- one serving as a digital instrument cluster and the other as an infotainment system display create a futuristic cockpit experience. Although it lacks wireless Android auto and Apple carplay, apart from that touch response and display quality is top-notch. Also, the ambient light create a very lavish experience inside the cabin.
The front seat offers exceptional comfort and support, ideal for long journeys. It is all electronically adjustable, you can adjust the seat at your convenience it also offers lumbar support and calf support adjustments. The front seats also offer zero gravity features for both driver and passenger. The front seats in Ioniq 5 come with both heated and ventilated options, but it doesn’t have a dedicated button to enable these. You need to use the infotainment system to switch on any of these.
The rear seats on the other hand are very comfortable. They are also electronically adjustable, you can adjust the reach as well as the tilt of the seats. These can be done via buttons given at the bottom of the seat but also with the buttons given on the side of the front passenger seat. Also, there’s a third button on the front passenger seat which can be used to activate boss mode with just 1-click.
Unfortunately, the rear seat does not have ventilation but it has a heated option. I’m not sure who’d use the heated seat option in India. It might be used but it is very rare on the other hand if it were ventilated then it would have been more useful. You get a head-rest for all three passengers at the rear which is adjustable as well. Arm-rest on the rear side offers two cup holders as well.
Ioniq 5: Storage –
With the Hyundai Ioniq 5, you get a lot of storage space. First of all the huge 520L of boot space is more than enough for 4-5 full-size bags. If this is not enough then you get a 57L of front trunk or I can say “frunk”. You can use it as a storage as well. On the interior, you get a unique glove box that opens as a sliding drawer and comes with lights. You can also use the hefty space below the armrest to store a few things.
Ioniq 5: Technology and Features –
In terms of technology, Ioniq 5 excels with a comprehensive array of features designed to enhance both convenience and safety. The infotainment system supports seamless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Although, it’s not wireless. A premium sound system from Bose delivers clear and immersive audio, enhancing the overall in-cabin experience.
Wireless charging capability, multiple USB ports, and a host of driver-assistance systems- including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and automated emergency braking- further elevate the convenience and safety levels. The car also supports over-the-air(OTA) updates, ensuring that it remains updated with the latest software enhancements and improvements.
Ioniq 5: Performance and Driving Dynamics –
Available in rear-wheel drive configuration, the Ioniq 5 delivers impressive performance powered by its electric drivetrain. The electric motor provides instantaneous torque, resulting in smooth and responsive acceleration that is characteristic of EVs. The choice of battery options ensures varying ranges to suit different driving needs, making it suitable for both urban commuting and longer journeys.
The regenerative braking system enhances efficiency by capturing energy during deceleration, thereby extending the overall range of the vehicle. The adaptive suspension system contributes to a comfortable ride quality, effectively absorbing bumps and road imperfections, which is essential for a smooth driving experience.
Ioniq 5: Charging and Range –
Charging the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is convenient and efficient, and supports both AC and DC fast charging options. With the ability to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 18-30 minutes (depending on the charger type), the Ioniq 5 offers practicality for drivers looking to minimize downtime during charging sessions.
The range on a single charge varies depending on driving conditions but generally provides ample distance for typical daily commutes and occasional longer trips, alleviating range anxiety commonly associated with electric vehicles. The company claims the range of 631 Km per charge but while testing we got about 400 km. So you can expect a range of around 400-450 km on a single charge.
Ioniq 5: Safety and Reliability –
Hyundai prioritizes safety in the Ioniq 5, equipping it with a comprehensive suite of advanced safety features. Multiple airbags, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a surround-view (360) camera system. These technologies are specifically designed to enhance driver and passenger safety. The vehicle’s build quality reflects Hyundai’s commitment to reliability, offering peace of mind to owners regarding durability and longevity.
Advanced driver assistance systems further contribute to safety by providing additional layers of protection and assistance in various driving scenarios. There is a long list of ADAS features which is as follows –
